Samsung Phones Will Include Crypto Key Storage
In a joint launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10 in London, San Francisco, & London, electronics giant Samsung has announced that their new flagship phone will include crypto-key storage. The new feature is referred to as: Samsung Knox.
"Security: Galaxy S10 is built with defense-grade Samsung Knox, as well as a secure storage backed by hardware, which houses your private keys for blockchain-enabled mobile services."
This is the 2nd time a large, mainstream smartphone manufacturer provides in-house support for cryptocurrencies. The smartphone manufacturer HTC has launched its own blockchain phone, the Exodus 1, which contained a hardware cryptocurrency wallet in December 2018.
Despite the Bitcoin slump of 2018, it seems that public & corporate interest in cryptocurrencies is growing. One of the Bitcoin's loudest critic, Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan, has announced the launch of JPMorgan coin, known as JPM.
Behind You Sirin!
The only company to most likely dislike this trend would be niche-phone manufacturer, Sirin Labs. Sirin Labs has managed to raise more than $157M within 24 hours to develop the first blockchain-based smartphone, the Finney. Unfortunately, the future does not look bright for Sirin Labs, with more and more mainstream phone manufacturers getting in on the action and developing support for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Since Samsung's announcement, Sirin Labs Token as tumbled 4.04% to a near all-time-low of $0.029.
With Samsung's announcement, one can wonder when Apple will follow step and release an iPhone with cryptocurrency support.
