Paranoia or just Healthy Suspicion?

Crypto Influencer John McAfee Fears He's Being Followed

A lot can be said about John McAfee. He's been a controversial figure in the past few years and has had quite a few notable exploits. He founded McAfee antivirus, ran multiple businesses, ran for as a candidate for Presidency in 2016, and got involved into the crypto space.

In the world of cryptocurrencies he had a few public feuds, offered help with Binance's security following the recent hack, and pumped many different coins. Recently, he began launching a crypto based debit card.

The presidential hopeful for 2020 has been on the run from U.S. authorities since January 2019. McAfee was indicted with tax evasion by the IRS and has since been visiting various Caribbean countries with his yacht.

Being Watched?

Recently McAfee took to twitter claiming that he's being followed by supposedly U.S. authorities. In a tweet McAfee claimed that he was being followed by 4 individuals, followed by a photo.

"These are the types if idiots they send: Long sleeve shirts in Tropical heat. Stood for over an hour in the same spot observing the boat. I've identified 4 of them so far. If there are more I'll have photos and IDs tomorrow. Couldn't ID this man (grainy photo). Anyone know him?"

Followed by:

"Tomorrow I will post the photos of all the idiots I've noticed. Will run a contest for my hacker followers - who first finds full names, addresses and social security numbers of all of them. I will publish the results, and invite the winner to visit here in the Bahamas.

Have had lots of comments like this one and even @jack weighed in. I have to withdraw my bounty for identifying the gentleman in the photo. As to posting other photos, I will attempt to befriend them and then post their photos like I post photos of other friends."

Bottom Line

While McAfee's claims might be correct, one must also consider his documented substantial drug use. He does seem to be very concerned, however. In a tweet he said the following:

"I expect the U.S. government to act soon in order to silence me. I want you all to know that everything I have done, I have done for the cause of freedom. I want a world in which authorities discover crimes, not manufacture them. A free world."

If McAfee is correct, and authorities attempt to apprehend him we probably won't hear from him in a while. Should that happen the crypto-space would lose one of its most entertaining influencers.
